A Friday, 15 Days After Reuters

Intel’s memo resetting its first Ohio fab to 2030 arrived 15 days after Reuters reported that the Trump administration was reviewing CHIPS Act funding agreements.

Intel announced Ohio One in January 2022 as a two-fab, $20 billion project in New Albany, with the first fab targeted for 2025. Intel raised that commitment to $28 billion in March 2024.

The Wall Street Journal reported late 2026 in February 2024—a date Intel neither confirmed nor denied. Intel’s Feb. 28, 2025 memo confirmed 2030, making the reset five years later than the original target.

15 days apart

Feb. 13, 2025 — Reuters reported a Trump administration review of CHIPS Direct Funding Agreements and possible disbursement delays. GlobalWafers confirmed its award conditions were under review. Intel’s memo followed on Feb. 28.

June 4 — Howard Lutnick told the Senate that some Biden-era grants were overly generous and some deals should not have been made. The sequence gave readers two competing frames: Intel’s execution and program-wide uncertainty. Their adjacency provides context—not evidence that either caused the other.
