Vismaya · a data-storytelling studio

We give the invisible its shape.

Vismaya is a two-person data-storytelling studio. We start with the dataset, find the question it answers, and build the form that insight actually needs: a scroll, a book, a board or a deck.

Vismaya · A studio for wonder · October 2026

— Process

Three things. In order. Every time.

Pattern, then meaning, then form. Below, our own 33 published stories go through all three.

The three worlds

Our mark

Our mark borrows from Roger Penrose’s diagram of reality’s three mysteries: the leaps between pattern, mind, and form. None of them makes sense alone.

Vismaya is Sanskrit for wonder: the feeling when something you couldn’t see becomes suddenly, undeniably visible.

We added the z for viz. That’s the job.

01 — Data · Pattern

We start with the dataset, not the story. The pattern has to exist before we decide what it means. We find it, and we refuse to distort it.

Each dot is one published story: sections across, words up.

02 — Narrative · Meaning

We find the question the data answers: the thing a reader can carry away, repeat, and use to see the world differently.

Colour the five decks and a question appears: why do our company stories read so heavy?

03 — Design · Form

We find the format the insight actually needs. Sometimes a fifteen-section scrollytelling piece. Sometimes a single annotated map and four sentences. The form serves the story, never the other way around.

Words per section, one dot per story. Source: Vismaya’s 33 listed stories, 29 September 2026.

3.4×

Maps show. Decks explain.

Our five decks, all company stories, carry 3.4 times the words per screen of our 28 maps.

— What we believe

Rigour and beauty are the same demand.

A beautiful line is only allowed to pass through measured points.

Where stories start

Spin first. Then find the story.

We don’t wait for a topic to arrive. Three randomizers pick one: the Desk for industries, Atlas for countries and cultures, Epics for the places in the great poems. A spin is an assignment, not a story: the research decides whether there is one.

The draw has rules

  • 60% of Desk spins are weighted by heat; the rest are pure chance.
  • No segment twice in 30 days, no combination twice in 90.
  • Heat 85 or more gets back in anyway.
  • Nothing new? Breaking, then Developing, then Evergreen.
  • Atlas spreads across regions; Epics keeps one spin in three philosophical.

HTML stories

Any agent can write the page

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor: any agent reads our brief and writes one finished, self-contained HTML page. We serve it exactly as posted at /s/<slug>, inside our header and footer. No config, no render step.

Four formats

A scroll, a book, a board or a deck

Stories scroll by default. Three formats aren’t vertical at all, and each runs on a small runtime the site hosts, so the agent writes only the content, its design and its charts.

The hosting contract

  • One complete HTML file, posted by the agent through our API or MCP tool.
  • Served in a sandbox: scripts run, but with no cookies and no storage.
  • A theme tag tints our header and footer to the story’s palette.
  • A lint checks the page before it goes up, and reports what to fix.
  • Photos: openly licensed first, AI only as illustration, every one credited.
  • Two sites host them: vizmaya.fyi and footshorts.com.

Same story, three formats

Homer’s Odyssey, told as a book, a board and a deck. The only difference is the format.

Served exactly as posted.

Every save keeps a version, so any page can be rolled back.

What the world hides

The world is full of important things nobody can see: not because they’re hidden, but because nobody has bothered to make them legible.

The supply chain that keeps your phone alive runs through six countries and a chokepoint most people can’t name. The policy shift that will reshape your industry in five years is sitting in an appendix, unread. The slow variable that explains the fast headline is right there in the dataset, ignored.

Either

It stays buried in jargon.

Or

It gets compressed into a hot take.

Both fail the same way.

What we make

We don’t start with a format. We start with a question: what does this insight actually need to land?

Sometimes it’s a ten-minute scrollytelling piece. Sometimes a single chart with a headline. Sometimes a forty-five-second reel. We’d rather kill a good story than publish a wrong one, and we’d rather make one person think differently than impress ten thousand who scroll past and feel nothing.

Data storytelling, visual journalism

Shashank on LinkedIn

He started as a journalist who couldn’t stop designing, and a designer who couldn’t stop researching. Nobody hired that combination, so he taught himself: not out of strategy, but because the obsession left no choice.

He believes clarity is an act of generosity: that every number is someone’s lived reality compressed into a digit, and most of the time life gets flattened into a chart no one reads. He exists to give it back its shape, and to refuse to let the distance between what is true and what is understood be someone else’s problem.

Suprabho on LinkedIn

Product designer and creative technologist. Founder of Promad, where he builds design tools and workflows (Figma plugins, parametric systems, AI-assisted production pipelines) that address the fragmentation of modern creative work.

Previously designed at Microsoft, 1mg, ClearTax, Merkle Science, and Kidzovo; early work on interaction design at IIT Guwahati was featured in a CHI publication. At Vismaya he builds the engine: the formats, the randomizer and the pipelines under every story.
